I’ve been getting quite a few questions lately from founders who are thinking about fundraising. Let me tell you, there is A LOT to learn; it’s not just about your killer pitch deck! There are many business decisions and legal aspects to fundraising that you need to understand before taking investment capital. Thankfully, we have advisors and mentors in our region who are experienced and willing to help you out!

For example, this Thursday, attorney Jan Roos is the guest at StartupSac Office Hours and will cover the legal essentials for raising capital. You’ll learn what all the terms mean as well as get familiar with the different types of agreements (Equity, SAFE, Convertible Note, etc.). This Tuesday, Traction has a free webinar, Entrepreneur’s Guide to Fundraising. If you’re looking for some “on-demand” workshops, at Startup Grind Sacramento in December, active angel investor John Selep covered the basics of what startup founders need to know when looking to raise funds for their startup. And just last week, Mark Haney of HaneyBiz interviewed three members of the Sacramento Angels for his show, The Basics of Angel Investing. It’s helpful for both people considering becoming an investor as well as for entrepreneurs who want to understand more about why Angel investors invest.

P.S. I know you want help with your killer pitch deck too. On March 16, StartupSac Office Hours will feature serial entrepreneur Sonny Mayugba and he’ll share some of his pitch secrets with you. More Details/Register

Don’t forget, February is Black History Month and there are a couple of events featuring Black entrepreneurs MAKING HISTORY you should check out. This Thursday the AMA with Entrepreneurs #MadeAtSacState series features Roshaun Davis, cofounder of Unseen Hero. On Tuesday, February 23, Startup Happy Hour features Jontae James, the founder of NatureTrak, an enterprise risk management platform for financial institutions that bank the cannabis industry.
