During this free half-day event, industry experts and innovators convened online to explore the local digital health and life sciences landscape in the Sacramento region. The showcase featured key industry experts in digital health and also featured presentations from innovative startups presentations in digital health and life sciences.

Keynote Address: The Future Of Healthcare In A Post-covid-19 World

The online event kicked off with a keynote address by Dr. Khuram Arif, Chief Medical Officer, Western Health Advantage. Dr. Arif explored how COVID-19 has accelerated healthcare moving toward digital care. This informative talk covered important digital health care issues including:

  • A post-COVID-19 health plan outlook : Current state and current needs
  • The rapid adoption of telemedicine as a result of COVID-19
  • COVID-19 driven healthcare delivery changes
  • Care Innovation Needs – Comprehensive, Integrated, Smart Health Records
  • Health delivery system to seamlessly accompany patients
  • Patient autonomy and the need to untether patient electronic health records from the parent health system
  • Consumption patters, and more

Panel Discussion: How COVID-19 Has Accelerated The Adoption Of Digital Health And Digital Care

The next session on the agenda continued the theme of digital health in a COVID-19 world. Moderated by Francis Kong, MD and featuring a Nicoleta Bugnanu, PhD, MBA, Peter Yellowlees MBBS MD, Davis Liu, MD, Larry Ozeran, MD, and Albert Chan, MD, the panel discussion explored how digital health care has changed doctor-patient interactions. Discussion points included:

  • How health policy impacts startups’ ability to succeed
  • The speed of innovation and change. The future is coming faster than you think, but slower than you want
  • The relationship of technology to the healthcare providers. How they are impacted by the change to digital technology
  • The unintended consequences of some of the changes we’ve seen – equity, provider burnout, etc. How to address those needs
  • What does the future of ‘hybrid care’ mean and what does it look like?

Keynote Address: Aggie Square

The online event continued with a keynote address about Aggie Square. This planned innovation hub on UC Davis’ Sacramento campus will be home to research programs, private industry partners, classrooms, student housing, and public-facing programs that engage local communities and entrepreneurs. Aggie Square will be where university, industry and community come together to create opportunities for everyone. It will create a unique environment to foster collaboration and creativity. Entrepreneurs, companies, and workers can thrive in this technology campus that values inclusion and creates chance encounters among creative people. Sharing the plans about this collaborative technology and innovation campus were Bob Segar, Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning and Environmental Stewardship at UC Davis, and Mark Romney, Chief Industry Alliance Officer at UC Davis.
