Join us in July for a special social impact focused StartupSac Happy Hour

For our next StartupSac Happy Hour event in July we’re again teaming up with the Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sac State, as well as DiverseCity Ventures to bring you a social impact focused event. Our featured guest this month will be social impact entrepreneur Nicholas Haystings, founder and Executive Director of Square Root Academy.

I first met Nicholas Haystings when I interviewed him in 2016 as a fellow RAILS grantee to learn more about his social impact startup, Square Root Academy. Square Root Academy, trains the next generation of engineers,  scientists, and innovators in STEM, science, technology, engineering and math, focusing on underserved communities in our region. I came away from that interview inspired by Nicholas’ work and committed to sharing and promoting the work that he and his team do to make Sacramento a better community.

The impact that Nicholas has had on the community is truly impressive and inspirational. According to a recent profile of Nicholas in Comstocks Magazine, before the coronavirus pandemic hit, the programs that he has launched were reaching 4,000 students a year through in-class sessions and events at up to 20 sites in Sacramento, Davis and Woodland. A true innovator, Nicholas has adapted and pivoted his programs due to the requirements of social distancing, launching Scholar’s Playground, an online platform to educate K-12 on STEM.

To lead the conversation with Nicholas, we’re welcoming back Mariah Lichtenstern, Aspen Tech Policy Fellow, founding partner at DiverseCity Ventures, and Managing Director of the Founder Institute, Sacramento Chapter. If you want to be inspired by a true community leader who is making real social impact you’ll want to tune in to this engaging discussion to hear Nicholas’ story.
