Disruptive technologies often emerge during times of economic crisis. One industry that has been turned on its head during the coronavirus pandemic is education. Institutions from elementary to university-level had to adapt to a distance learning model overnight. The immediately available solutions did not solve all customer problems, and in fact, some created new problems (zoombombing anyone?). This means there are now significant startup opportunities in the field of education technology.

Seizing the moment, Sacramento startup community member Mike Mendelson, cofounder of Skale Education and a pioneer in classroom innovation, is relaunching Sacramento’s EdTech Meetup group, The first event is happening online this week via the Skale platform. Whether you’re already involved in EdTech or you’re searching for problems that need solving to fuel your next startup idea, this meetup could be just what you need to spur you on to developing solutions for the new education frontier. Check out Innovations in EdTech Inspired by COVID-19 on Wednesday during the lunch hour.

Another sector that has been severely impacted by COVID-19 is the transportation industry. Thanks to the vast travel capacity of the internet, Tuesday morning you can join Founder Institute Costa Rica’s webinar, The Future of Transportation & Mobility, featuring a talk with Mark Frohnmayer, Founder & CEO of Arcimoto, a publicly traded company whose mission is to build products that catalyze the shift to a sustainable transportation system. Discussion topics will include how COVID-19 is impacting the transportation and mobility industry, the opportunities that will arise in a post-COVID world, and the trends that entrepreneurs and investors in the space can expect.

How am I doing you ask? The velocity of time is distorted — it’s moving slowly and quickly in the same measure. Days and weeks lack the demarcation of my former seven-day routine. I wake up on a Friday and it seems like yesterday was Monday. All the days of the week are jumbled together. I’m often bored, yet remarkably, time is racing by. How are you doing?

There’s lots of great stuff going on this week in our (online) startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest.
