For our latest Sacramento startups profile we’re welcoming back Donte Morris, co-founder of HoopMaps who we first interviewed two years ago in March 2017. Donte won second place in our recent StartupSac Warm-Up Pitch Competition on April 5.
In this episode we talk about:
- Their experience on Shark Tank
- The fortunes and challenges of dealing with a media hype cycle
- The importance of getting input from customers and how that drove their product features
- Scaling smartly
- Their calculated, methodical approach to growing HoopMaps
- What Sacramento can do to help them and other young startups succeed
If Sacramento could champion us, HoopMaps, as being here from Sacramento – originated from here, got the story from here – I want to be recognized as an international company that’s based in Sacramento. I want that message to be strong, that you have one of the big names right here in your city and whatever you can do to support, we’re big, so if you tell people about basketball. And basketball is just the beginning. We plan to expand into different sports – tennis, soccer, volleyball – all different sports. We see us leading this RecTech industry.
