One new startup that helps eliminate food waste and another launching a new almond snack present at 1 Million Cups Sacramento.
Cold temperatures and broken train rails didn’t deter dozens of Sacramento area entrepreneurs from dropping by Hacker Lab in Midtown to hear the latest two startup presentations at 1 Million Cups Sacramento. The theme of the day was food-focused as the group heard first from Morgan Woolf, founder and C(everything)O of Turtle Haus, a new startup creating “Almonds done differently : brined and dry roasted in the shell. Easy to open by hand and tasty.”
Following Morgan the group heard from Brianna McGuire, co-founder and CEO of Foodfully, a startup dedicated to reducing food waste. Brianna overcame a broken train rail in Davis to make the commute to Midtown thanks to the graciousness and kindness of 1 Million Cups team organizer Lacye Martini of startup Octain who drove to Davis to give Brianna a ride.
Here’s a recap of the event.
Turtle Haus
Not all almonds are alike. Turtle Haus’ almonds have paper thin shells, allowing consumers to enjoy them similar to an i-shell pistachio. They’re uniquely brined and dry roasted in small batches without sugar or oil and have been praised as being “extremely addictive”. What makes this almond truly special is that it doesn’t rely on bees for pollination – a huge deal within an industry with the highest demand for honey bee pollinators. Turtle Haus is the first company using exclusively this variety of Almonds.
