We were a little light on startup-focused events this week, so I included more local developer meetups as well as a few San Francisco startup events in this week’s Startup Digest. Let me know if you like having these kinds of events included. The best local event for startups this week is 1 Million Cups which will be at Capsity on Wednesday from 9-10 am. RSVP here.

Plan Ahead

Startup Grind’s August 13 guest is Irma Olguin, Jr., CEO and cofounder of Fresno-based Bitwise Industries. She and her team just secured $27 million in funding, among the largest Series A raises ever by a female Latinx founder. The capital supports the company’s goal of activating human potential for the technology industry in underdog cities. Bitwise has made great strides in Fresno in advancing diversity and equity through workforce training and this funding will help them expand to other cities. If you get your ticket by August 9, it’s just $15 and you can save $5 by entering “digest” in the promo code field. Prices go up to $20-$25 after. Get tickets

Did you miss StartupSac Happy Hour in July? Jeff and I needed a summer break but we’re back on August 27 and we’re taking a road trip to Old Town Pizza in Roseville. The AMA guest is Peichen Chang, CEO of Engineered Medical Technologies. They are the maker tCheck, a device that tests the potency of cannabis products and is currently developing a pesticide testing device. Since it began selling in 2016, Chang has sold over $1 million of its tCheck product. Thanks to our sponsor, The Studio Coworking, we’ll have free pizza! Free to attend. RSVP here.

We’re building community! The StartupSac Community Facebook Group has over 300 members. Now we need you!  Request to join here.

Do you want free business mentorship, advising, or consulting? StartupSac and the Capital Region SBDC have partnered to provide free business support mentorship to help Sacramento region entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. Learn more and sign up!
