The ability for startup founders to effectively present their startup to investors is critical for securing funding. Based on the success of StartupSac’s first Warm-Up Pitch Practice competition last fall, StartupSac is once again providing the opportunity for local startups to hone their presentation skills. We have invited 6 Sacramento area startups to participate in our next pitch event on Friday, April 5 at Sacramento State’s Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Based on responses to our call for applicants last fall, we’ve invited six startups to participate in this event.

The pitch event will not include prize money, but will help participants develop presentation skills and provide valuable feedback for future pitches to investors. In addition to the pitch event, the presenting founders will receive training and coaching in a workshop prior to the pitch event as well as a practice dry-run.

We’ve heard from founders and investors alike that there is a need for more pitch events in our region to better prepare startups for pitching to investors for funding. Additionally, many startups lack connections with experienced advisors and mentors that can provide invaluable insight, guidance, and experience. Connections to experienced mentors proved to be a valuable takeaway from the first StartupSac Warm-Up Pitch.

“The whole process has completely changed my business life and our business. It has been just stunning…we got access to some really high level advisors. To hear their feedback has just opened doors for us. We’re looking at things different. We have access to experts who know our business, our market inside and out and they are able to help guide us through all sorts of weeds that otherwise would have taken too much time.” ~ Jocelyn Munroe, Founder and CEO, eHandoff, presenter at December event

The event is being held in collaboration with Sacramento State’s Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as part of a full day of Sacramento State’s Future 4 & More Competition and Entrepreneurship Conference. The event is open to the public and free to attend and we invite the Sacramento startup community to come out to show your support for local homegrown startups.
