Sacramento’s startup ecosystem continues to evolve and grow and in 2018 we saw a fair share of additions and changes to our community. Keeping tabs on all that’s going on in our startup community is one of StartupSac’s core activities. But, we don’t want to horde that information just for ourselves. We want to share and communicate it to everyone. Part of that communication is through our Sacramento Startup and Innovation Ecosystem Diagram. Last Friday I quietly released the latest, and long overdue, update to the diagram to reflect changes in our ecosystem over the last several months.

Check out the latest version of the Sacramento Startup and Innovation Ecosystem Diagram!

Sacramento Startup and Innovation Ecosystem Diagram v4.2

Updates to this version of the Sacramento Startup Ecosystem diagram include:

  • Separating Startup Events & Activities and Tech Training & Workforce Development into two different “lines”
  • Adding new Maker Spaces; Wide Awake Geek, Square One Maker Space, Sacramento City College Maker Space
  • Adding new Incubators/Accelerators/Training Programs: Evolution Incubator, AccelerateU, Capital Region AR VR Accelerator
  • Adding new Civic Programs; Startup Elk Grove, Startup in Residence, Sacramento SCORE

As with every version of this diagram, this one comes with a caveat – it’s not perfect. The diagram is a work in progress. It’s subjective. People will disagree with how it’s represented, what’s on there, what’s missing. That’s ok. It will continue to evolve and change to reflect our ever-changing startup and innovation community. My hope is that is that it will continue to serve as a starting point for getting to know our startup ecosystem and also serve as a conversation starter about it. And, though it has become somewhat cumbersome to update, I’m looking forward to seeing what evolves in the Sacramento startup scene in 2019 that will need to be reflected on the subsequent updates to the diagram.
