Have a business idea but aren’t sure where to start? Or are you building a startup and need guidance to take it further? Turning an idea into a successful business requires more than passion. It takes customer research, financial planning, a strong business model, and the right connections.

For more than 40 years, the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy (The Academy) has helped aspiring entrepreneurs and early-stage founders develop the skills and confidence needed to move their ideas forward. Applications are now open for the Class of 2027, offering an opportunity to learn from experienced business leaders while building a foundation for entrepreneurial success.

Learn by Building a Business

The Academy takes a hands-on approach to entrepreneurship education. Rather than focusing solely on theory, participants, known as fellows, work in teams to develop business concepts, test ideas, and build practical business skills.

Throughout the program, fellows develop three major deliverables: a team business plan, financial projections, and a presentation deck. With guidance from experienced mentors and business leaders, participants learn how to evaluate opportunities, strengthen their business models, and prepare to bring their ideas to market.

A Curriculum Designed for Entrepreneurs

The program runs from January through May 2027, with Saturday morning sessions from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Each session includes expert presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on workshops that help fellows apply what they learn.

Topics include customer research, market validation, branding, marketing, financial planning, startup financing, legal considerations, operations, and business growth. Fellows also learn how to develop compelling pitches and communicate their business ideas to potential partners and investors.

Mentorship and Connections That Matter

One of The Academy’s greatest strengths is its connection to Sacramento’s entrepreneurial community. Fellows learn directly from experienced entrepreneurs, executives, and industry professionals who understand the challenges of starting and growing a business.

Through mentorship, team projects, and feedback sessions, participants gain practical insights while building relationships with other founders and business leaders. The Academy’s network of more than 800 alumni also provides connections to the region’s broader startup ecosystem.
