Sacramento is pinning a lot of hopes on its technology industry. Our political and economic development leaders have pointed to civic tech, autonomous vehicles and other nascent technology as the potential key to reducing our region’s dependence on the 70,000 jobs provided by the state of California.

So, what does Sacramento have to offer a tech company founder? And what advantages does one give up when trying to build a company here rather than in Silicon Valley or anther more established technology hub?

We, at the Sacramento Business Journal, will be exploring these questions at our annual TechEdge event on June 1. We hope you can join us.

This year’s program will feature:

  • an overview of the region’s technology landscape by Moneta Ventures managing partner Lokesh Sikaria, one of the region’s leading venture capitalists;
  • A panel of locally based startup founders Sheri Atwood of SupportPay, Brian Dombrowski of Fantag and Ken Ouimet of Engage3 on the advantages and obstacles to building a company in Sacramento;
  • Kevin Nagle, who built Envision Pharmaceutical Holdings and sold it for $2.3 billion, on the lessons he learned starting, growing and selling a business; and
  • A panel of venture capitalists Jose Blanco of CVF Capital Partners, Larry Marcus of Walden Venture Capital, Vaibhav Nadgauda of Moneta Ventures and Curt Rocca of DCA Partners on what they seek in companies they invest in.

TechEdge will also feature TechExpo, a showcase of local technology companies.

The event will be held at the McClellan Conference Center on Thursday, June 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
