Thank you Greater Sacramento Economic Council! We are honored to receive this award for Outstanding Community Contribution. And we are thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce StartupSac to business leaders who may not be familiar with the work we do in the startup community. StartupSac began as a passion project in 2015 shortly after the Sacramento regional technology alliance closed its doors.
We initially launched as a resource website for startup founders looking to get connected with our entrepreneurial ecosystem. Last year, after being awarded a RAILS grant from the city of Sacramento, we expanded our outreach and added networking and educational activities to our offering. Earlier this year, we organized as a public benefit corporation and applied for our nonprofit status. It’s our desire to impact the development of, a rich entrepreneurial ecosystem in Sacramento. Our founding principles are based on Brad Feld’s thesis that it be an inclusive, give-first community, led by entrepreneurs, with long-term commitment, and with continual activities that engage the entire entrepreneurial stack. You can read more about it in his book, Startup Communities.
Our mission is to accelerate Sacramento’s startup and innovation ecosystem by informing, educating, empowering, and connecting its startup founders and innovators. We’re excited about what 2018 will bring to this region and look forward to partnering with all of you to strengthen our economy.
We’d like to give a shout out to the city of Sacramento, who first funded us. Also to Rich Foreman, founder of Apptology, for developing the StartupSac app. We’d also like to thank our early sponsors, whose financial support enables us to continue our work. Thank you Moneta Ventures, Norman Roos, and Carson & Kyung.
