Companies Invited to Apply for Summer 2016 First Class in Sierra Foothills Community

The Green Screen Institute, a collaborative initiative, based in Nevada City, focused on innovations in the emerging virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) markets, today opened applications for the first class of the Green Screen Institute accelerator. The Green Screen Institute accelerator is a ten-week program held during the summer in the foothills of Nevada County for startups focusing on content creation and other tools and technologies for VR and AR platforms. Applications for the accelerator will be accepted from April 29 through June 1, 2016.

Accelerator participants receive:

$50,000 stipend
Office space at the Green Screen Institute
Housing for three people
Networking opportunities with the advisory board, investors & others
Access to VR & AR developer kits and production facilities
Legal & accounting services
Entrepreneurship education & programming

The Green Screen Institute is looking for exceptional entrepreneurs creating software or content that will form the basis of successful VR and AR businesses. Up to four companies will be selected from the applicants.

“This first accelerator class is going to benefit from the direct attention of our community and Advisory Board,” said Jon Gregory, managing partner of the Green Screen Institute. “This summer program will be intense, fun, and an opportunity for our entrepreneurs to claim a foothold in this exciting new market.”

The Green Screen Institute boasts an Advisory Board of industry professionals who bring diverse expertise to Institute stakeholders, including executives from leading companies like Samsung, EA, Fandango, and the most active VR investors in the world.

The accelerator program kicks off on Monday, July 11, 2016, and participants will enjoy a VIP experience at the California WorldFest at the end of their first week. Admitted startups will spend a week in Truckee in mid-August, with opportunities to hike, water ski, and be inspired by the beautiful scenery and active lifestyle of Lake Tahoe. The program concludes in September with the Nevada City Film Festival and an investor demo day.
