Coffee

Today is International Coffee Day (Saturday was National Coffee Day). I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a special day — I celebrate coffee every day! Caffeine is the drug of choice in the entrepreneurial community. In fact, 1 Million Cups, a weekly meetup for startups, is based on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and engage with their communities over a million cups of coffee. And even if coffee occasionally gets a bad rap, it has some scientifically proven health benefits. Just google “benefits of coffee” and you’ll discover it reduces the chance for some types of cancers, reduces the chance for Type 2 diabetes and could even help you live longer. But we don’t drink it for those reasons — they just justify our habit, right?! For me it’s a brain booster, making me more alert and helping me stay focused. It’s even a mild antidepressant. At a usual consumption rate of two cups a day, I’m not too worried about overdoing it.

This bears repeating…last week I highlighted StartupSac Warm-Up Pitch, a pitch practice opportunity (application deadline 10/12), and  Five Star Bank Tank, an investor pitch (October 31). If you are near or at the investment ready stage, you should definitely check out these two events.

Plan Ahead

Itching for a Startup Weekend? We don’t have any planned for the Sacramento area in the near future, but there are 3 coming up in nearby communities. The weekend of October 19, you can choose from Startup Weekend Latinx in Oakland or Startup Weekend Education in San Francisco. The weekend of November 9, our Nor Cal neighbor Redding is having a Startup Weekend. Look for one in Sacramento in the Spring of 2019.
