The Dog Days of summer were historically the period following the rising of the star Sirius, which Greek and Roman astrology connected with heat, drought, lethargy, mad (or at least hot) dogs, and bad luck. They now more commonly refer to the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. And no doubt, they’ve arrived in Sacramento! It’s hot enough to swim in an ice cold river or two so let’s just dive right in this week! And wherever you go, may you be blessed with the steady hum of a cooling air conditioner!

1 Million Cups is “branching out” to the Sacramento Public Library! In the next month, we’ll be coming to you from a more diverse set of venues. Impact Venture Capital is still home base, but twice a month, we’ll visit another community. This Wednesday, we’re partnering with the Sacramento Public Library (it’s about more than books!) and you can find us at the Central branch on I Street in Downtown Sacramento from 9-10 a.m. As always, it’s free — RSVP here.

The Father of the Internet, Dr. Vint Cerf, is giving the keynote address next week on Aug 2 at the Future Worlds Symposium, organized by AMC Sacramento and supported by the City of Sacramento. This is an all-day event and will be held at Sacramento City Hall. There are a limited number of complimentary admissions available to Startup Digest readers. You can learn more and snag a freebie here. Don’t delay — this deal is selling out!
