Join us for our new speaker series, Women in Tech. This is your opportunity to meet other women in technology careers as well as those pursuing technology careers. In addition to mingling and making new friends, our guest speaker Venita Sivimani, one of the lead organizers for Million Women Mentors California, will speak about the current state of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers and how we can impact the future success of women in STEM fields. The national initiative, Million Women Mentors supports the engagement of one million STEM mentors (both male and female) to increase the interest and confidence of girls and women to persist and succeed in STEM programs and careers. The California Chapter is seeking to recruit 50,000 of those mentors.

About Our Speaker
Venita Sivamani has focused her efforts on equity and leadership for over a decade. A Teach For America alumnus, board member for international education nonprofit Visions Global Empowerment, and health education startup co-founder, Venita has spent time in and out of the classroom working to empower youth and communities through education and mentorship locally and abroad.
Venita earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UC Davis, where in both cases she received the school’s highest awards. Venita was also selected as one of the “Top 30 MBAs to Watch” in the world this year by Poets and Quants.
Since graduating, Venita has teamed up with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and UC Davis to help launch Million Women Mentors California, millionwomenmentors.org, a statewide effort to increase mentorship for women and girls pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers. So far 500,000 mentor pledges have been received across the nation, and over 30 million girls and women are being served worldwide through partnerships with dozens of other organizations.
Most recently, blending her passion for education and entrepreneurship, Venita has co-founded Dermveda – an online skin health education platform. Venita serves as CEO and along with a group of medical practitioners is integrating technology with traditional and western medicine to provide an interdisciplinary and personalized approach to holistic skin health and wellness. Their website, dermveda.org, is scheduled to be released in 2016.
