Good news for makers in our community! There are several upcoming events just for you and some new makerspaces opening.
MADE Studio
MADE Studio, an offshoot of the now closed Hacker Lab, is having a soft opening this Friday from 5 to 9 PM. This new space is a maker studio and business incubator in Oak Park, focusing on creatives, artists, makers, and our BIPOC community. Learn more and RSVP here.
Grassroots Maker Movement
If you’re interested in the grassroots maker movement in Sacramento, there is a potluck community gathering on Friday, October 14, from 6 to 9 PM at the Community Clubhouse at 1807 Tribute Road in Sacramento. I heard about it from Christina Granados and Brandon Ortiz. The topic is “Makerspace Meetup: Starting From Scratch.” It’s hosted by Creator Fabric. There will be a special announcement at the event from the local maker community! RSVP here.
Community Shop Class
Community Shop Class, a new makerspace in Oak Park, is now open for memberships. It started as an idea to help bring access to tools and tradeswork to the Oak Park neighborhood. They’ll be teaching trades classes and offering other learning opportunities for the neighborhood.
Carlsen Center
And while it’s not quite ready, the Carlsen Center at Sac State will soon have a makerspace. It’s under construction and should be ready by the new year, if not sooner. I’ll let you know when that’s open. Stay tuned!
Did I miss any makerspaces? Let me know — we’d love to get them on the ecosystem map! (I haven’t included those at colleges that are just for enrolled students but they are out there too).
There’s a lot going on in our community! Check out the events I’ve highlighted below and for a full listing, check out this week’s Startup Digest! While you’re there, you can sign up to receive the digest in your inbox every Monday morning!
