Last week, Hacker Lab announced that it will be closing its Rocklin and Rancho Cordova locations and focusing all of its energy on its Midtown location. There are lots of reasons they made this decision and you can read about them in the official press release here.
This has me reflecting on our region’s coworking history and how it’s grown over the last decade. Capsity and The Urban Hive were the first on the scene back in 2008-2009 and Hacker Lab opened as the first makerspace in 2012. Many others have opened since then — I think the last time we counted there were close to two dozen.
Coworking spaces are more than just office space — each location has its own vibe and offers something unique to our community. Our collection of coworking spaces has hosted workshops, fireside chats, Startup Weekends, bootcamps, hackathons, and many other entrepreneurial-focused activities. These micro-communities bring people together and help us make those serendipitous connections that sometimes change our lives and always enhance them. What will the New World Order bring for this essential resource for the entrepreneurial ecosystem? I hope we can meetup at a coworking space again soon.
Even though we can’t meet in person right now, we’re still building community! The StartupSac Community Facebook Group has nearly 700 members. Now we need you! Request to join here.
In spite of a lack of in-person opportunities to meet, there is lots of great stuff going on virtually in the startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest. If you’d like to receive the digest in your inbox every Monday morning, sign up for free here. And for even more startup information, happenings and resources, browse the StartupSac Website.
If you’ve organized (or know about) an event you think belongs in the Startup Digest, please submit it here for consideration.
