Startup Weekend Sacramento: Health Edition is in full swing this weekend. Here’s a quick, rough recap of what happened Friday evening and Saturday.

Friday Evening

Participants showed up at the Urban Hive, registered, networked, and ate a lasagna dinner provided by our sponsor FoodJets.

The main event kicked off with welcome remarks and an explanation of how the evening and weekend would work by organizing team leader Maria Navas-Moreno and our facilitator for the weekend Luke Bayard.

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Yan Chow, MD, MBA, presented on creating unique value proposition in the healthcare industry and fielded lots of questions from the participants.

Prior to participants pitching their own ideas for the evening, Luke led the crowd in a game of pitching crazy ideas around random words like ice cream and cats – a great way to loosen everyone up and inject some creativity into the crowd.

The Pitches

We were running a bit late, but around 8:30 we started the pitches with anybody wanting to pitch their idea, lining up at the front. Each participant had 60 seconds to pitch their idea, describing the problem, their unique solution to the problem, and what kind of skill set they were looking for from the audience.

Voting

After all pitches were over, all participants got to vote on their favorite three ideas by placing stickers on a big Post-it note for a given idea. Votes were then tallied by the organizing team. 12 ideas were pitched. Nine ideas made the initial cut by top votes. Those nine winning participants then had the responsibility to recruit at least one other person to help them develop their idea over the course of the weekend. When all was said and done, five teams emerged to develop ideas over the weekend.

12 ideas were pitched, 9 ideas made the cut and 5 teams emerged for this weekends Health Edition! #swsac
