What can we expect for 2021? More of the same for the next 4-6 months as far as the pandemic situation goes and its impact on our day-to-day lives. But history shows that crises bring about opportunity for startups. 2020 created a number of new trends that savvy entrepreneurs will consider as they create new businesses or adjust their current ones.

According to an article published last month by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the top four business trends for 2021 are: 1) businesses will continue to prioritize e-commerce, 2) alternative payment options will proliferate, 3) remote work will persist, and 4) businesses that offer virtual services will continue to be in high demand.

Expanding on the last trend, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce reports that the pandemic has resulted in increased demand for certain business types, especially those related to technology and virtual health and fitness. These include cybersecurity, at-home fitness, remote work software, gaming, virtual events, home improvement, e-commerce, food delivery, fast food franchises, and telemedicine businesses. If you are thinking about starting a business, or are looking for ways to adjust or expand your current business, consider something in one of these business categories.
