I’m baaaaccck! Last week fellow curator Jeff Bennett filled in for me while I enjoyed a 4-day women’s leadership retreat — UNPLUGGED! No wifi, no cell service. It was glorious! I’m back to real life and there is a lot going on!

Startup Weekend Sacramento Health Edition is just around the corner, kicking off on Friday April 29. It’s 54-hours of building a health-focused startup from scratch! Participants pitch BRAND NEW ideas, form teams and pull together an MVP in just 2.5 days! This experience is for anyone — not just coders, not just healthcare professionals. You don’t need an idea to participate–you can join a team that has an idea you like. Get your ticket today before Early Bird pricing ends. Save even bigger by entering “digest” in the promo code field (35% off!).

If you’re interested in Startup Weekend Apr 29-May 1, there are a couple of events going on this week that may help you come up with an idea to pitch. This afternoon at 3:30, there is an autism awareness event at the Mind Institute that will include a discussion with young adults with disabilities on how they use assistive technology. Wednesday night, Health 2.0 Sacramento is hosting a talk on “The intersection of healthcare and technology” at Hacker Lab. And then on Monday, April 25, come to a free pitch workshop where I’ll explain how Startup Weekend works and prepare you to pitch your idea at Startup Weekend. If you are on the fence about participating the organizing team will be there to answer any questions you might have.

And let’s not let the grownups have all the fun! Sacramento-based nonprofit Operation Innovate, co-founded by Hacker Lab’s Gina Lujan, is hosting a 2.5 day Youth Hackathon (ages 12-17) at Sierra College in Rocklin April 29-May 1. This event will feature 1.5 days of STEAM-focused workshops and then on the last day, the kids will work together as a team on a project. It’s only $50 (and you can even purchase a scholarship for a kid in need). They ALWAYS sell out at the Youth Hackathons so be sure to get your kid registered right away!

Where will I be this week? At InnoGrove on Tuesday for Mobile Apps workshop featuring Apptology CEO Rich Foreman, at Hacker Lab on Wednesday for the Health 2.0 Sacramento event, and I may sneak in an hour of networking before that with the MedStart crew at Lowbrau. Maybe I’ll run into you?!
