We want to give a shout out to local startup Tenkiv and their Kickstarter campaign. They are getting really close to their goal but there are only a few days left! It’s time for our community to dig deep and support their campaign to help solve the global water crisis. When this newsletter was put to bed, they had raised $33,749 in pledges of their $50,000 goal.

THIS WEEK’S BEST BETS

There’s a new kid in town — it’s the StartupSac Happy Hour, happening for the very first time tomorrow (Tuesday) at The Golden Bear from 5-7 pm. Come hang out with fellow entrepreneurs and also take advantage of the AMA (ask me anything) with Sonny Mayugba, founder of Requested and now CMO of Waitr. There’s no cost to attend, but The Golden Bear would be thrilled if you buy yourself a cocktail! Jeff and I will both be there.

Wednesday morning, check out 1 Million Cups at Impact VC from 9:00-10:00 am. If you haven’t checked out this weekly meetup yet, you really ought to come! Every Wednesday, two early stage startups give a short presentation on their company followed by 20 minutes of Q&A (and great suggestions!) from the audience. It’s free AND so is the coffee! And if you have an energy startup, stick around for a short workshop on the CalSEED grant from 10:30-11:00 am. $150K per energy startup is up for grabs!

On Thursday afternoon, The Big Bang! is offering a free Business Bootcamp in Davis for startup founders. You don’t have to be competing in the Big Bang to take advantage of the bootcamp. It runs from 4-8 pm.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

FOUNDERS! Impact Venture Capital just announced that applications are now open for the 2017 Entrepreneurs Showcase Accelerator. Apply by February 20 to participate in this free 8-week program. Accepted companies will be announced on February 23.

If AG or FOOD is your thing, UC Davis is accepting applications to the Food + Ag Entrepreneurship Academy through Thursday, February 2. This opportunity is open to the public. The academy runs February 6 – 8. Some scholarships are available.

TELL A FRIEND

Do you know a First Responder? Please tell them about an upcoming event just for First Responders on how drones can be used to help carry out their missions. It’s in the afternoon on February 14 in Elk Grove. All the details are here.

PLAN AHEAD

Sheri Atwood, founder and CEO of SupportPay, is the February 16 guest for Startup Grind Sacramento. Her story is phenomenal and she is an enthusiastic supporter of the startup dreams of others. If you get your tickets by Jan 31, you will pay only $5 to attend if you use the promo code “digest” when you register.

There’s lots of great stuff going on in the tech startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest. If you’ve organized (or know about) an event we have not included, please submit it here for consideration. And for even more startup information, happenings and resources, visit the StartupSac Website. Want to receive the Startup Digest in your inbox every Monday morning? Subscribe for free here.
