Never before in my life have I been more ready to say goodbye to a year and welcome a new one! I know I’m not alone in this! Unfortunately, while we can leave 2020 behind, we’re still stuck in this pandemic mess for a bit. And that means that our startup community will continue to meet virtually for the time being.
Surprisingly, at least it was unexpected back in March, online Sacramento startup events during the stay-at-home season have been better attended than in-person events were. More of you have showed up for the weekly 1 Million Cups meetup and monthly Startup Happy Hour than ever before. But while online event platforms have advanced in their features over the last nine months, we still haven’t found a way to replicate the “serendipitous collisions” that happen at in-person gatherings.
Consider reaching out to someone new in the next online meeting you attend to set up a short virtual coffee meeting. I’ve had a few of these in the last couple of months and they’ve been fun and refreshing. One-on-one is so much easier than trying to communicate with a zoom room of 20+. Try it out and let me know how it goes.
Another way to connect with other founders is in the StartupSac Community Facebook Group. Startup founders and those who support the growth of our startup ecosystem connect and exchange ideas in this private group. We’re just a handful shy of 800 members — join and push us over the edge before the end of the year!
I didn’t find anything startup related happening this week but the new year kicks off strong. Check out what’s happening in early January in this week’s Startup Digest. While you’re there, consider subscribing.
