Support the Next Generation of Founders: Capitalize Next Gen Final Four Is Live
Sacramento’s startup ecosystem continues to grow, and one of the most exciting entry points for emerging founders is back in the spotlight. Capitalize Next Gen, powered by the Sacramento Kings, is now in its final stage and this is where the broader community plays a role.
Fan voting is officially open, giving you the opportunity to support four standout startups as they compete for the top prize. If you care about innovation, early stage founders, and the future of entrepreneurship in the region, this is your moment to get involved.
What Is Capitalize Next Gen
Launched in 2016, Capitalize is the Sacramento Kings crowdsourced startup competition and the first of its kind in the NBA. Over the years, it has supported more than 200 startups by connecting founders with mentorship, visibility, and access to a larger network.
Capitalize Next Gen is a reimagined version of the program that focuses specifically on emerging entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 30. The program is designed to meet founders where they are, whether they are coming from college programs, workforce training, community based initiatives, or building on their own.
Participants receive pitch coaching and the opportunity to present their ideas to investors, executives, and the community. It is not just about competition. It is about exposure, learning, and growth.
Meet the Final Four
After a competitive Pitch Day, four companies have advanced to the final round:
Data Pigeon
An AI-driven predictive maintenance platform for EV charging infrastructure, using telemetry data to detect failures before they impact drivers.
First Bite
A non-adhesive endotracheal tube securement device for intubated infants in NICU and PICU settings, designed to reduce skin trauma and improve patient outcomes.
GuLP
An AI-powered AAC platform designed for autistic users who process language in whole phrases, offering a differentiated approach from traditional word-based systems.
heycoach
A marketplace where college athletes coach and mentor in their sport.
Each of these companies represents a different sector, but they all share one thing in common. They are solving real problems with thoughtful and innovative solutions.
Why Your Vote Matters
This stage of the competition is driven by the community. Fan voting helps determine which founder takes the final step toward winning the $10,000 prize.
For early stage founders, this kind of visibility can be a turning point. It can lead to new users, partnerships, mentorship, and even future funding opportunities.
By voting, you are not just supporting a single company. You are contributing to a culture that values innovation and backs founders at the earliest stages of their journey.
Voting is open now through April 3 and can be completed quickly online. Explore short videos from each company and cast your vote here.
What Happens on April 3
The competition will culminate live at the Sacramento Kings game on April 3, when the Kings take on the New Orleans Pelicans at Golden 1 Center.
During the game, the winning company will be announced in arena, putting them in front of thousands of fans. This moment is more than just a celebration. It is a major visibility opportunity that can accelerate a company’s growth overnight.
Being featured on that stage connects the founder and their company to a much larger audience and reinforces Sacramento’s commitment to supporting innovation.
The $10,000 Prize and What It Means
The winning startup will receive a $10,000 cash prize to support the continued growth of their business.
At the early stage, funding like this can make a meaningful difference. It can help founders build their product, test with customers, invest in marketing, or take the next step toward scaling.
Combined with the exposure from the Sacramento Kings platform, the prize is both financial support and a signal of credibility.
A Platform Built for Emerging Founders
Programs like Capitalize Next Gen are critical for regions like Sacramento that are actively building their innovation economy. They create accessible entry points for founders who may not yet have access to traditional startup resources.
From pitch coaching to exposure on a major stage, participants gain experience that would otherwise take years to build. Being affiliated with a brand like the Sacramento Kings also adds a level of credibility and reach that most early stage founders do not typically have.

If you are a founder, entrepreneur, or someone who wants to see more innovation in Sacramento, this is an easy way to show support. Take a few minutes to review the finalists and cast your vote.
