A couple of weeks ago, Rich Foreman, Laura Good and I were having lunch at a local Korean BBQ restaurant and discussing various ideas about the Sacramento startup community. At some point we hit upon the topic of a kind of pivot of the old Beer and Geeks event. So, in the spirit of doing some market validation, it seems to make sense to get some feedback from the community to measure the interest level.
The Concept
Organize and host a monthly informal meetup of entrepreneurs at a local bar, restaurant, or brewery where a startup veteran answers questions from other entrepreneurs. Less of a networking event and more of an informal learning event.
The Goal
Provide an opportunity for early-stage entrepreneurs to learn from and gain insight & feedback from more experienced entrepreneurs, as well as to provide a supportive forum of encouragement and collaboration in the Sacramento startup community.
The Structure
- Monthly meetup at around 5:00pm for about an hour at a changing venue each month.
- Likely the 3rd or 4th Thursday of each month.
- Each event features an established startup veteran who makes a very brief introduction about his or her background, then the remainder of the event is open to informal Q&A and discussion.
- The veteran entrepreneur will be different each month. General, loose criteria for choosing the guest veteran entrepreneur might include the following:
The entrepreneur’s startup is earning revenue and/or has obtained at least a seed level round of investment or the entrepreneur has had a successful exit.
