There’s lots of good news on the local startup and tech company front in recent Sacramento Business Journal headlines. From IPOs to Investment Rounds, it’s been hard to keep up! In case you’ve missed it, I’ve rounded up those from the last few weeks below.
Origin Materials, a chemical and green technology company based in West Sacramento, is going public in a merger with SPAC Artius Acquisition Inc. In its SEC filing, Artius estimates the transaction could be worth $990.7 million.
PowersSchool, an education software developer based in Folsom, filed for an initial public offering, with its shares to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. PowerSchool could have a valuation as high as $6 billion.
Grin, an influencer marketing software company based in Sacramento, raised an additional $16 million in a round led by New York retail and technology VC fund Imaginary Ventures. This followed an $10 million raised in December.
Pheronym, a biological pest management technology company based in Davis, received $242,000 in seed funding led by the Sacramento Angels
In other news, the 8 month season of the UC Davis Big Bang culminates next week on May 27 with the 2021 Awards Show. Seventeen startups made it to the finals and you can vote for the $10,000 People’s Choice award winner this Friday, May 21. Startup Happy Hour with Joshua Tillman, CEO of Conquer, Tue May 25 at 5 PM: May’s guest is Joshua Tillman, CEO of Conquer, formerly known as DialSource. The Sacramento-based company has raised $26 million in multiple investment rounds since 2015, including an early round led by Roseville-based private equity firm DCA Partners.
