Instead of a taking things easy the next few months, a serious startup founder will take advantage of online learning opportunities to move their business forward. If you’re ready for Startup Summer School, finding the right resources may seem daunting. If you google “how to build a startup” or some other term like that, the results can be overwhelming. How can you sift through all the resources on the internet for the best content? I’m here to help! The resources I’ve listed below are great places to start.

The Kauffman Foundation’s entrepreneurship.org site is LOADED with great resources. If you’re new to the world of startups, their video series on The Lean Approach taught by Steve Blank is a fantastic place to start!

I learned about a new resource last week at Startup Grind from Google for Entrepreneurs’ Nicole Froker — startup.google.com. The entrepreneurial resource site features tools, best practices and more. If you’re thinking about using Google Cloud, you can join the Google Cloud Startup program and get up to $3000 in free credits as well as free engineering support. Startups can apply to join by reaching out to a Google Partner. Startup Grind is a Google partner and Rich Foreman, our local chapter director, can hook you up with an application. Connect with him at rich.foreman@startupgrind.com.

This Week’s Best Bets

UCD Venture Catalyst Knowledge Exchange has a free lunchtime event on Getting Your Startup Funded on Wednesday. The bad news: it’s sold out (I warned you!). The good news: they have a waitlist. If you signed up but don’t plan to go, let them know so someone else can go. Join the Waitlist here.

Wednesday night, Startup Sales expert Scott Sambucci is holding a free workshop at InnoGrove in Elk Grove. Learn why early stage startups need to stop marketing and start selling! Scott will teach you the finer points of getting your first customers. RSVP here.

What do CleanStart and Sacramento Eco Fitness have in common? How about a desire to improve sustainability through renewable energy? Join CleanStart for its Thursday evening meetup happening at the gym and learn how people power is keeping the lights on!  RSVP here.

Startup Grind is taking a road trip to Davis on Thursday evening. This free event at the Hunt Boyer Mansion will feature a fireside chat with Mark Haney, CEO of Haney Biz. Appetizers will be provided. RSVP here.

Plan Ahead

StartupSac Happy Hour is back Tuesday evening, June 26 at Hot Italian in Midtown. This month’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) guest is Ken Ouimet, the cofounder and CEO of highly successful Davis-based Engage3. It’s a free no host event (i.e. buy your own drinks) but it helps with planning if you RSVP here.

Mark your calendar for the annual Startup Summer Party happening July 17 and brought to you by Startup Grind, StartupSac and The Urban Hive. It’s free to attend and there’s also an opportunity for pre-revenue startups to have an exhibit table for just a $50 fee. Last year over 300 people attended and this year will be even bigger! Come celebrate all things startup with us! RSVP/Buy a Table here.

We’re building community! The StartupSac Community Facebook group launched a few weeks ago and already has over 150 members. Now we need you! Request to join here.

There’s lots of great stuff going on in the tech startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest.
