Welcome to the Sacramento Startup Digest!
The legacy of SARTA continues with a new regional Innovation Awards program. A partnership between Stoel Rives, Moss-Adams and the Sacramento Business Journal, this program will celebrate innovation taking place in our community. The Awards will recognize innovations in six categories: Advanced Manufacturing, Food & Agribusiness, Hardware & Electronics, Medical & Health Technologies & Services, Software, and Sustainability. Nominations are open now through July 22. For complete information on the program, eligibility and nomination process, check here. P.S. I’m on the nomination committee for the Software category. :)
My Pick of the Week: I’m a vocal advocate of gender equality in the Startup Community (as well as everywhere else). I am super stoked that InnoGrove’s Women in Tech program in Elk Grove this Wednesday will focus on Gender Differences in Communication. This free event is for both men and women. Please come to find out how you can help foster gender equality by understanding key differences in our communication styles. If not for the sake of your own career, come so that you can favorably impact your daughter’s future.
Looking for ways to fund your Startup? I’ve got 6 ways for you! Or at least Founder Academy does! Attend their free fireside chat on Wednesday at The Urban Hive and find out what startup investors and lenders are looking for and how they can help your business grow and succeed. There will be pizza!
Wanna play with a Robot? Here’s your chance! Hacker Lab kicks off it’s Vex Robotics Challenge in Rocklin on Tuesday. This 3-week challenge calls for you and your team to build and program a robot and compete against others in a fun and friendly tournament series! It’s for ages 12-adult so it’s a great opportunity to work with your kids on a STEM project.
Plan Ahead
I’m leading a free workshop on June 21st at InnoGrove in Elk Grove on polishing up (or creating) your Startup’s Digital Footprint. This is going to be fun and I hope you’ll join me!
The Apps for Ag Hackathon is coming July 15-17! It’s a free statewide competition happening right in our own backyard in Davis! Got an idea? (or) Got coding skills? You should go! Final pitches will be judged at the California State Fair on July 17th! And did I mention prize money? $5000 for First Place! Cash prizes for 2nd and 3rd place too.
More Stuff: Looking for Maker and Design Classes? Hacker Lab has it going on! Check out their full calendar of events here. There are lots of opportunities to develop mad skilz at both their Midtown and Rocklin locations.
