Welcome to the Sacramento Startup Digest!
Although we’ve been enjoying a welcome reprieve from scorching temperatures, things are still sizzling in Sacramento’s startup scene.
The hottest news continues to be the City of Sacramento’s new Innovation and Growth Fund. Last Wednesday, Ash Roughani, Program manager for the Mayor’s Office for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, addressed a standing room only crowd of innovators at the Urban Hive to go over details of the City of Sacramento’s RAILS grant program. If you weren’t able to make it or if you want a refresher, I’ve posted a video of Ash’s presentation. Ash has also posted the slide deck to his presentation. If you’re interested in applying for a RAILS grant, the deadline for applying is July 22.
Looking forward to what’s going on this week in Sacramento, tonight you can join UC Davis Biomedical + Engineering Entrepreneurship Academy for a networking mixer and keynote talk by Dr. Chris Yu, CEO of Anpac Bio on Game-Changing Innovation: An Unconventional Path to Success.
Tomorrow evening at the Urban Hive, Darren McAdams, founder of Sacramento-based startup Food Jets will be Rich Foreman’s guest at Startup Grind Sacramento. The Startup Grind Sacramento events are a great way to get involved in the local startup scene and each event reveals a wealth of great tips and insight from experienced entrepreneurs. Innogrove Coworking in Elk Grove is the place to be on Wednesday for Why Every STEM Professional Needs a Mentor (and How to Find One). Come out, join a lively panel discussion and find out how a mentor can help accelerate your career! This Women in Tech event, as always, is open to both women and men.
To wrap up your week, check out the Apps for Ag California Statewide Hackathon starting Friday in Davis and going through the weekend. In this hackathon teams will work on tech solutions for problems in agriculture and food production and the winning team will get to pitch on stage at the California State Fair on July 17th.
Looking for Maker and Design Classes? Hacker Lab has it going on! Check out their full calendar of events here. Lots of opportunities to learn in both their Midtown and Rocklin locations.
