Twin brothers and Sacramento State grads Dominic and Donte Morris both have a passion for pickup basketball games. But finding pick up games was a challenge. Tracking down a game to play in could take hours. They knew people were playing basketball – they just didn’t know when and where. Being entrepreneurial-minded, they figured that there had to be a better solution. So they created a mobile app called Hoop Maps that allows users to find pickup basketball games nearby.

Hoop Maps is already getting some serious traction. They were one of the final 16 startups in the 2017 Kings Capitalize startup competition. They’ve been covered by TechCrunch, been featured on CBS Sacramento, and most recently on ESPN’s SportsCenter SC6.

I met up with Donte and Dominic at the headquarters of Sacramento startup Trifecta, who graciously offered the use of their new podcast studio, to chat about their app and their experiences in creating their new startup. Check out the YouTube video below or scroll down to click to and download the audio podcast to listen on the go. And if you’re a basketball fan, don’t forget to download Hoop Maps on iTunes.
