Sacramento chapter of AGING2.0 holding first “Older Americans Celebration: with “5 over 50” Awards for older achievers and “Innovation in Aging Pitch Event
Older adults contribute to the strength and vitality of our community and enrich the lives of those who are impacted by their efforts. The Adult & Aging Commission’s “5 Over 50” Awards was initiated to commend and celebrate the excellent work our seniors contribute to making Sacramento County a great place to live. This award not only honors and recognizes the valuable contributions of Sacramento older adults but also serves to inspire others to follow their example. The Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission will present one recipient per each of the five districts.
The evening will be topped off with Sacramento Aging2.0 Chapter’s 4th “Innovation in Aging” Pitch Competition with high-tech and/or “high-touch” solutions. Similar to the “Shark Tank” format, innovators will present their business ideas addressing some of the challenges of aging in inspiring and creative ways. There will be a “Judges Award” and an “Audience Award” with audience participation.
The objectives of the “Older Americans Celebration” are to:
- Emphasize the vital role that older adults play in our society and combat ageism by spotlighting inspirational senior leaders from our communities
- Show how innovation is an area of opportunity and promote excitement around the possibilities
- Promote an awareness of what resources are available to caregivers, seniors and those who want to learn more about healthy and helpful aging and
- Bring experts in the senior industry, innovators, civic leaders and the public together to inspire and improve our communities.
