Sacramento has a number of resources to help you launch a business. Whether it’s a brick-and-mortar business, service business or scalable startup, there are people and programs that can help you move forward. StartupSac has a comprehensive list of these resources on our website. You can view the entrepreneurial ecosystem map here.
One of those resources is The Power of SHE, a business incubator for women of color. SHE stands for “shaping and honing entrepreneurs.” Organized by Tiffani Sharp, the program just celebrated the completion of its third cohort. I was on the judging panel for Demo Night last Friday and it was tough to pick a first place for the $1000 grant. Congrats to Ja’Nel, founder of Vibingon, for winning the pitch competition! You can learn more about the program here and sign up to be notified when they are taking applications for the next cohort.
Another great program is the annual Big Bang! Business Competition, organized by UC Davis. The program is open to everyone in the community and it runs from October-May. This competition offers serious prize money! In addition to the competition, the Big Bang! offers a comprehensive series of free workshops for building entrepreneurial skills. There is a lunchtime information session this Tuesday in Davis (free pizza is rumored) and the official Kickoff is on October 22. Find out about the Big Bang! and its upcoming events here.
