Every day in the United States, 3,000 youth abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. 90% of people that get addicted to opioids get addicted in their teenage years. 70% find those opioids in their home medicine cabinet. Only 3% of families lock up their prescriptions. One Sacramento Startup, Gatekeeper Innovation, has developed a patented abuse-resistant technology, SaferLock, that stops unauthorized medication access, simply and affordably.
In this episode of the StartupSac podcast, I met with Kim Box, President and CEO at Gatekeeper Innovation, at her office to learn more about this local Sacramento startup that’s helping to address a national crisis by limiting access to prescription painkillers.
Prior to joining the team at Gatekeeper Innovation, Kim worked at HP for 29 years, leading a billion dollar organization as an executive of IT services. Eight years ago she decided it was time to make a change and do something with more purpose that could make an impact in the world. A little over a year ago she was introduced to the founders of Gatekeeper Innovations, whose mission aligned perfectly with her goals, passion, and skill set.
