Meet Josh Manley: Entrepreneur, Educator, and Innovator Extraordinaire
Josh Manley is a best-selling author, CNC professor at Sac City College, and entrepreneur dedicated to imparting technical skills. With a background in education and a TED Talk with millions of views, Josh’s passion for innovation and teaching led to the inception of CADclass.org, focusing on 3D design and printing education. He’s committed to empowering students to unleash their creativity and problem-solving potential.
“The world needs creative problem solvers who can quickly move from concept to physical prototype. This requires communicating 3D ideas to people and machines. CADclass helps innovators bring their ideas to life with step-by-step tutorials in 3D modeling and 3D printing.
We want to help as many people as possible bring their ideas to life. If we are going to make a better world for people now and in future generations, we’ve got to help people solve problems.“-Josh Manly
Sac Innovation Program: Empowering Creativity
The Sacramento Innovation Program, spearheaded by Josh Manley, emerged from a simple yet pivotal moment in a wood shop, igniting the vision to democratize 3D printing knowledge. Stemming from the success of CADclass, this initiative, supported by the City of Sacramento, pioneers accessible training and equipment for aspiring innovators. At zero cost, participants gain hands-on experience in 3D modeling and printing, fostering a community of problem solvers.
Goals and Objectives
The program aims to cultivate a new wave of creative problem solvers adept at transforming concepts into tangible prototypes. Through CADclass tutorials, participants develop essential skills crucial for innovation. The overarching goal is to foster a culture of problem-solving, vital for societal progress and future generations.
Contributing to Sacramento’s Innovation Ecosystem
By providing tools, mentorship, and a conducive environment, the program seeks to catalyze innovation within the Sacramento region. With aspirations for global expansion, the initiative sets a precedent for collaborative problem-solving and community-driven innovation.
Selection Process and Participant Expectations
“The selection process for participants in the Sacramento Innovation Program is driven by passion rather than prior experience. We seek individuals so deeply passionate about a topic that they lose track of time when engaged with it. While there are no age restrictions or prerequisites, we aim for a diverse mix of participants, including students from middle and high school, professionals, hobbyists, and community leaders. We evaluate applicants based on the enthusiasm expressed in their responses to open-ended questions. To apply, candidates need only provide basic details and answer six thought-provoking questions, such as describing a topic that captivates them and why. Additionally, as the grant primarily benefits Sacramento County, we prioritize selecting participants from this region.”-Josh Manley
Resources and Impact
Equipped with 3D printers, computers, and comprehensive training materials, participants witness the game-changing power of their ideas. Stories of entrepreneurial success within the program emphasize its potential to nurture budding innovators.
Fostering Sacramento’s Innovation Hub
Looking ahead, Josh envisions Sacramento as a global innovation epicenter. By nurturing local talent and providing resources, the program aims to bolster Sacramento’s reputation as a thriving hub for innovation.
