The very first coworking space in Sacramento opened it’s doors on August 8, 2008. Ahead of the times (in Sacramento anyway) Capsity was instrumental in launching a new collaborative workplace culture in our region. Tonight, they are celebrating their 8 year anniversary. And you’re invited to celebrate with them! The party starts at 6 pm.
Women Who Code starts a 2-part hands-on series on Tuesday on the Internet of Things in partnership with the Summer of IoT program developed by Hacker Lab and Intel. The follow-up session is next Tuesday, 8/16. Ladies — this is your chance to get some awesome exposure to this trending technology without having to suffer through the bro culture! (yeah, I really said that). Guys — don’t worry — you can crash or you can join Hacker Lab’s “mainstream” Summer of IoT program. The same basic workshop is also offered on Wednesday, August 10 at Hacker Lab.
I always include Tahoe Silicon Mountain events in the Sacramento Startup Digest because they have such interesting topics and speakers. Tonight’s event in Truckee is on Crowdfunding and while it is a gorgeous day for a drive up to Tahoe, they are also live streaming the event. So you can stay in the flatlands but still gain some startup funding knowledge!
And speaking of crowdfunding, save the date! I’m working with my friend Clarissa at Kickstarter to bring an evening crowdfunding workshop to Sacramento on September 8th. Stay tuned for exact time and place!
Wanna talk about your favorite productivity and innovation apps? InnoGrove’s Women in Tech program (men invited too!) is having a meetup on Wednesday about Essential Apps for STEM Professionals. Come learn from others about their favorite apps and share yours too! This will be a roundtable discussion format. Slack, Evernote and more will be included in the discussion.
Looking for Maker and Design Classes? Hacker Lab has it going on! Check out their full calendar of events here. Lots of opportunities to learn in both their Midtown and Rocklin locations. There’s also a new maker space in town. Check out MakerHQ. They also offer maker classes.
Looking Ahead
1 Million Cups is coming to Sacramento in September! Developed by the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is based on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and network over a million cups of coffee. This free weekly program is designed to educate, engage, and connect entrepreneurs. If you’re the founder of a startup company, you can apply to present here. If you’d like to be informed about upcoming 1 Million Cups events in Sacramento, follow the chapter here.
There’s lots of great stuff going on in the tech startup community. If you’ve organized (or know about) an event we have not included, please submit it here for consideration. And for even more startup information, happenings and resources, visit the StartupSac Website.
