Jeff and I have a favorite book called “Startup Communities: Building an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Your City” by Brad Feld. Our mission and goals at StartupSac are largely based on it. In the book, Feld details four critical principles needed to form a sustainable startup community. One of those principals is to create activities that engage the “entire stack” of entrepreneurs. StartupSac Happy Hour, a monthly event that features an AMA (ask me anything) from a successful entrepreneur, is designed to do just that. If you haven’t yet checked out StartupSac Happy Hour, come find out what it’s all about this Tuesday, when our AMA guest is Jon Coss, the founder and CEO of Pondera Solutions. Jon’s been very successful in gaining traction and securing funding for his “Fraud Detection as a Service” company. We hope you’ll join us tomorrow from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the law offices of Buchalter on Capitol Mall for Happy Hour. It’s even happier this time because the drinks and pizzas are on us! RSVP (free) here.
Ready for funding? Moneta Ventures will begin investing its new fund in June and are now accepting applications. They invest in early stage companies in the enterprise technology, healthcare, and internet/consumer application sectors and intend to invest 70% of the new fund in Sacramento companies. If you’ve got some sales traction, apply here.

Plan Ahead
On May 29, CleanStart’s monthly Cleantech meetup will include a few talks on clean technologies around the topic of water — reducing waste, improving quality, using it wisely. This free event will include talks from local startups Aquaoso and Athena Intelligence as well as an update on desalination technology. Appetizers and beverages will be provided at this free event. RSVP here.
On May 31, the Greater Sacramento Economic Council will discuss the findings of a recent report, “Charting a course to the Sacramento region’s future economic prosperity,” at its Competitiveness Forum. Get a sneak peek at the findings in the report in Jeff’s “High Level Summary” blog post. If you care about our economic future, you should be there! This is a free event. RSVP here.
There’s lots of great stuff going on in the tech startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest. If you’d like to receive the digest in your inbox every Monday morning, sign up for free here. If you’ve organized (or know about) an event we have not included, please submit it here for consideration. And for even more startup information, happenings and resources, check out the StartupSac Website. Note: We include a lot of tech events that aren’t necessarily startup-focused on the StartupSac event calendar. Check it out here.
