Hands

While it may not seem like a startup-focused event, I’m super excited about Dermveda’s Skin Care Wellness Fair happening this Saturday at the Sheraton Grand downtown! I first met founder Venita Sivamani at a Health 2.0 event three years ago when her company was little more than an idea. Venita quickly became engaged in our startup community, participating in Impact’s Entrepreneurs Showcase bootcamp in 2016 and the FourthWave Accelerator in 2017. She’s presented at 1 Million Cups, been interviewed by Jeff Bennett for the StartupSac podcast, and participated as a panelist in a number of discussions around women founders, the importance of mentoring and more. Her team has grown and they now work out of offices at CoWo Campus. It warms my heart to see such an example of success in our ecosystem!

Not only have Venita and her team created this wonderful showcase event for Sacramento, they’ve also worked with Mayor Darrell Steinberg to declare this week “Skincare Wellness Week!”  A healthy startup ecosystem celebrates its wins. So let’s all celebrate Dermveda by attending the Skin Care Wellness Fair! We’ve even scored $5 off admission for you with the promo code “startupsac5.” Get your tickets!

In the interest of a balanced ying-yang — I’ve got something for the more tech-leaning entrepreneurs among you. I’m excited to spread the word about 80+ startup-friendly government contract opportunities for entrepreneurs looking to help improve cities. The Startup in Residence program connects startups with government partners to solve civic challenges and secure contracts. Nearly 30 cities, including  Sacramento and West Sac, are looking for startups to help with data analytics, mobility, and resilience. Apply by November 7 for the chance to participate in the four-month program starting in January 2019.  View challenges and apply here!

I’m going to let you select your own “Best Bets” this week — there’s so much to choose from!  I’ll be hanging at Startup Grind Tuesday night at The Urban Hive, 1 Million Cups Wednesday morning at Impact Venture Capital, and Dermveda’s Skin Care Wellness Fair at the Sheraton Grand on Saturday afternoon. And next week, you can catch both Jeff and me at StartupSac Happy Hour on Tuesday evening (10/23) at The Monk’s Cellar in Roseville with special guest Aaron Klein, cofounder and CEO of Riskalyze.

We’re building community! The StartupSac Community Facebook Group launched about a month ago and already has over 235 members. Now we need you! Request to join here.

There’s lots of great stuff going on in the tech startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest. If you’d like to receive the digest in your inbox every Monday morning, sign up for free here. If you’ve organized (or know about) an event we have not included, please submit it here for consideration.
