Dr. Jennifer Shieh from the NHLBI (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) will give a presentation about the SBIR and STTR programs at NHLBI/NIH on Friday, June 3rd, 10:30 – 11:30 am. After her talk, Dr. Shieh will meet with teams 1-on-1, to address specific questions – if interested.

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are one of the largest sources of early-stage capital for technology commercialization in the US. These programs allow US-owned and operated small businesses to engage in federal research and development that has strong potential for commercialization.

SBIR/STTR programs are excellent sources of non-dilutive funding for small businesses. The NIH SBIR program permits and encourages research partnerships with academic institutions. The NIH STTR program is similar to the SBIR program, but requires that the small business formally collaborate with a research institution.
