Thanks to the apocalypse…err…pandemic… I attended my first Tiny House Conference this last weekend. 3 full days — all online! I don’t want to build a Tiny myself, but I think some day I want to live in one.
Speaking of multi-day online events, did any of you participate in the Global Online Startup Weekend this last weekend? If you did, I’m interested in hearing how it went.
What unique things have you been able to do from your couch now that everything has moved online? It’s becoming easier and easier to travel (couch surf) from your own living room! Share your experiences with me–I’d love to hear your stories.
Speaking of travel, with the click of a mouse you can attend events like Startup Grind in other cities. I’ve featured one this week from South LA happening TODAY at 1 pm. The fireside chat guest, Vanessa Punche’, is the CEO and Founder of LA Grind Coffee and Tea Bar. Vanessa is a woman of color whose passion for building her company was sparked by an incident in 2018 where two African American men were arrested at a Starbucks. She wanted to create a space that welcomed people “who looked like me.” You can RSVP for it here
Emergency Relief for Businesses Update: The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is back in business and the Small Business Administration (SBA) resumed accepting PPP loan applications this morning at 7:30 AM PDT from approved lenders on behalf of any eligible borrower. So check in with your banker if you’re looking for a PPP loan. I haven’t yet heard if the SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) portal will open today as well but jump on the Nor Cal SBDC call this morning at 10:30 am (RSVP Here) or the US SBA call at 10:00 am (RSVP Here) and they should have the official update. Or you can monitor here to see when the portal reopens.
If you’ve been missing in-person gatherings, I can’t offer you a face-to-face opportunity this week but I do have some good news — Tuesday, StartupSac and the Carlsen Center at Sac State are hosting an online version of Happy Hour. Our featured Ask Me Anything guest is Jessie Becker Alexander, co-founder of Alydia Health and Entrepreneur-In-Residence at the Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Alydia Health is a medical device company with a novel treatment for postpartum hemorrhage, the #1 cause of maternal death worldwide. You don’t want to miss this one! Register here and then tune in at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
THIS BEARS REPEATING: #DoGood: Elk Grove-based startup Bubbl is organizing a blood drive. Quarantine has led to a dramatically reduced supply in area blood banks. If you’d like to do some real good, check out this story where you can sign up for more information.
Events for startups pop up every day–if you want to make sure you are always in the know, join the StartupSac Community Facebook Group. Request to join here.
There’s lots of great stuff going on in our (online) startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest. If you’d like to receive the digest in your inbox every Monday morning, sign up for free here. And for even more startup information, happenings and resources, browse the StartupSac Website.
If you’ve organized (or know about) an event you think belongs in the Startup Digest, please submit it here for consideration.
