The world’s biggest startup competition is coming to Folsom. Since 2013, Startup Weekend events have been a key element of the Sacramento startup community, providing aspiring entrepreneurs a no-risk opportunity to test drive their innovative ideas.

Do you have an idea you’d like to build out? Do you want to meet motivated, talented people like yourself? Startup Weekend is the perfect opportunity to build a company—or at least as much as you can build in 54 hours!

For those who may not be familiar, Startup Weekend is a 54 hour event where participants come with a new idea and pitch it. Teams form around the top-voted ideas and then work on developing the that idea over the course of the weekend and then present to a panel of judges. The winners receive prizes and everyone receives valuable new skills, what it’s like to work in a startup, and insights into building a business around an idea.

Here are a few things you can ‘test drive’ during Startup Weekend:

1. The desire to become an entrepreneur—is it more than just a dream?
2. The idea—can you build it into a viable business?
3. The startup lifestyle—can you handle a high growth, low structured environment?

Nobody leaves a Startup Weekend empty handed. You’ll come away with new skills, new connections to motivated people like yourself, and perhaps, a startup business!

How does it work?

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model:

  • Pitch your startup idea and receive feedback from your peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote).
  • Then, it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.
  • The last part of the weekend is the most intense—teams present their ideas to a panel of judges and after a palm sweating Q & A, the judges pick the top 3 startups (did we mention, the winners get prizes to help launch their startup?).

Who should participate?

This event is open to anyone who wants to hone their skills in business planning, developing, marketing and design.
