Congratulations to Protxx for winning the Sacramento Kings Capitalize Pitch event last Thursday! Rick Spencer took home a big $10K check! Five Star Bank also held a private pitch event last Thursday that featured 20+ companies and from what I’ve heard, a ton of investors. While there was no real prize, one of my sources told me that Sacramento-based Grin Inc. was the crowd favorite and received a bottle of Champagne. Congratulations to cofounders Brian Mechem and Brandon Brown!
If you missed one of our region’s Startup Weekends in February, I’ve got some good news for you! There are four Startup Weekends happening in and around Northern CA in the next couple of months–from Redding to Oakland to San Jose to Atherton! Whether you’re looking for a basic event, one focused on Social Innovation or one focused on Ed Tech — there’s something for you! Check the listings below for details.
This Week’s Best Bets
The first week of the month is always light on events but 1 Million Cups happens EVERY Wednesday morning and is always a great choice! This week, two female founders are presenting their startups — IndiPUB, a self publishing alternative making independent publishing easier, more affordable, while offering publishing house quality; and PairAnything, which helps wine enthusiasts learn which wines best fit their tastes and expands their knowledge of food pairings.
Plan Ahead
Next Tuesday, Startup Grind hosts Kwame Anku, founder of Black Angel Tech Fund, at The Urban Hive. If you get your tickets by this Friday, you’ll pay just $10 if you enter “digest” in the promo code.
Impact Global Venture Summit extended their $100 early bird tickets through April 15. If you pair that up with “startupdigest” in the promo code field, you’ll pay just $25! What are you waiting for? Get your tickets to this May 8 event now!
There’s lots of great stuff going on in the tech startup community–check out the details in this week’s Startup Digest. If you’d like to receive the digest in your inbox every Monday morning, sign up for free here. If you’ve organized (or know about) an event we have not included, please submit it here for consideration. And for even more startup information, happenings and resources, visit the StartupSac Website. Note: We include a lot of tech events that aren’t necessarily startup-focused on the event calendar on the StartupSac website. Check it out here.
End Note: Thanks to those who replied to last week’s Digest — we found a location in Folsom to host 1 Million Cups on April 25! If you live in Folsom or EDH, mark it on your calendar and plan to join us from 9-10 am in the morning. We’re still selecting the presenters, so let me know if you’re interested!
