Stop Talking About Your Startup. Build It in 48 Hours.

Most founders do not struggle with ideas. They struggle with execution.

You can read books, listen to podcasts, and sketch business models for months. But until you test an idea in the real world, you are still guessing.

The Startup Challenge is designed to eliminate the guesswork.

From Friday, April 10 at 5:00 PM through Sunday, April 12 at 8:30 PM, founders, creatives, and innovators will gather at the Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sac State for a 3 day, high energy startup competition built around one principle: learn how to launch a startup by launching one.

This is not a conference. It is not a lecture series. It is a weekend of doing.

What Makes Startup Challenge Different

The Startup Challenge is a fast paced, experiential learning event where you build a brand new startup from scratch in one weekend.

On Friday night, anyone who wants to pitch an idea gets 60 seconds at the microphone. These must be brand new ideas. No websites. No customers. No logos. No existing work product.

Then teams form around the ideas that generate the most interest.

From that moment on, execution is everything.

You and your team will:

  • Talk to real customers
  • Validate the problem
  • Refine your solution
  • Build a business model
  • Develop traction
  • Prepare a final pitch

By Sunday night, you will present your startup to a panel of judges for feedback and cash prizes.

The winner is not the team with the “best idea.” The winner is the team that shows the most validation traction.

Support From Mentors and Facilitators

You will not be figuring this out alone.

Throughout the weekend, seasoned entrepreneurs, coaches, and subject matter experts will be available to help you move faster and smarter. They will challenge assumptions, guide customer validation, and help you focus on what matters.

We provide the structure. We provide the mentors. We provide the food, coffee, and resources.

You bring the energy and willingness to execute.

If you have ever thought, “I have no idea what I am doing,” this is exactly where you should be.

No prior business experience is required. You just need to be 18 or older and ready to commit to the full weekend.

Why Participate

The Startup Challenge is designed to help you:

  • Learn the process of turning an idea into a business in a supportive, fast-paced environment.
  • Build your network by working alongside entrepreneurs, mentors, and industry professionals.
  • Gain insights and feedback from experienced judges.

You do not need an idea to participate. You can join a team and learn by doing.

If you are serious about building something, this weekend compresses months of learning into less than 48 hours.
