Join us for this concise, informative session to learn about IP considerations for applicants and recipients of SBIR grants and other federal grants.

If your company is considering about applying for SBIR funding or other U.S. Government research funding, this 20-minute workshop, presented by the Sac State Office of Innovation and Technology Transfer (OITT) in partnership with the Carlsen Center and Advocacy Chiefs, will teach you about IP ownership and obligations associated with U.S. Government research funding.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Understand U.S. Legislation Allowing your Company to Own Inventions that they Develop with Federal Research Funding
  • Understand your Company’s IP Obligations to the U.S. Government
  • Understand IP Implications of your Company Subcontracting Research to a Public University (such as CSU Sacramento or UC Davis)

Who Should Attend:

  • Entrepreneurs and small business owners considering applying for SBIR program funding and other federal funding programs
  • Innovators, inventors, and researchers who want to commercialize their ideas, innovations and inventions
  • Companies receiving consulting and training from the California Technical Assistance Expansion Program (TAP) and Advocacy Chiefs

This workshop will be hosted by Rafael Gacel-Sinclair, Technology Transfer Officer at Sacramento State’s Office of Innovation & Technology Transfer (OITT) of Sacramento State’s Offices of Research, Innovation & Economic Development (ORIED).

Rafael joined Sacramento State in December 2021 to start OITT to protect, manage, and commercialize Sacramento State IP; and educate and advise faculty, staff and students about IP; and encourage them to invent, create, and innovate. Before joining Sacramento State, Rafael served innovation and technology transfer offices at the University of Hawai’i for three years and UC Davis for 19 years.
