I always think of September as Back to School month because when I was a kid, school always started the Tuesday after Labor Day. In reviewing the event offerings for the next few weeks, it looks like Back to Startup School month! So if you have an idea for a business, it’s time to start educating yourself on how to launch it. I recommend The Business Model Canvas on Sep 17, The Entrepreneurship Toolkit 5-part series starting Oct 7, and Legal Office Hours – Setting Up a Business on Sep 22.

If your idea will involve creating an online marketplace, there are lots of learning opportunities coming up: Facebook Shop on Sep 17, software options for an online store on Sep 22, and Shopify basics on Sep 29. And while you’re at it, pick up some search engine optimization (SEO) basics on Sep 15.

Speaking of launching a startup business, the CoWo Campus Accelerator just wrapped up its first cohort. 20 startup companies participated in the 8 week, 10 module program which ended in a Demo Day session earlier this month. Last week, the winner of the $10,000 prize, Remember.us, was announced. Congratulations Jon Shumate and team!

In other exciting startup news, last week AgStart announced a public-private collaboration to fund a new, shared-use innovation incubator in Woodland supporting innovators and startup companies in Ag, Food and Health. Lab@AgStart will feature a fully-equipped shared wet lab and commercial kitchen space as well as a co-working office space. The collaboration includes the U.S. Economic Development Administration, Yolo County, the City of Woodland, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, and a number of other private donors. The new space should open in January. Read the press release here.
