As part of the Aging2.0 Global Startup Search, the Sacramento chapter is hosting its third annual competition on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at 2030 W. El Camino Ave. Companies focused on using technology to better the lives of seniors are invited to apply at www.aging2.com/global-startup-search no later than March 1, 2017.

“The startup scene in Sacramento is heating up,” said Rich Forman, Founder and CEO of Apptology. “There is a lot of opportunity in the senior market. Aging2.0 is a good way to get some of these ideas in front of investors.” Startups do not need to be local to participate. Last year’s Sacramento competition attracted entrepreneurs from the Bay area, Southern California, and the East Coast.

The winner of the Sacramento pitch competition will:

  • Receive prizes valued over $2000 from local sponsors
  • Move forward to the Aging2.0 Global Startup Search Semi-Finals
  • Be featured on the Aging2.0 website
  • Receive ONE free ticket to the Aging2.0 Americas Summit & Startup Bootcamp (June 20-21) in Toronto
  • Receive ONE free ticket to the Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE Conference (Nov 14-15) valued at $800
  • Be featured on the main stage during the Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE Conference in San Francisco – potentially as a finalist.

The annual Aging2.0 Global Startup Search seeks the best aging-focused startups from around the world. The competition kicks off with a series of pitch events in chapter cities. Each chapter selects participants and judges for their event. The winning startup from each event proceeds to an online voting round, where the general public and a panel of expert judges evaluate and determine the finalists. The finale pitch event occurs during Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE conference. This program is hosted by Aging2.0 (www.aging2.com) and supported by Google for Entrepreneurs (www.googleforentrepreneurs.com).

Finalists (based on online voting + expert judging) will receive:

  • $1000 (USD) in travel stipends to get to San Francisco for OPTIMIZE
  • Aging2.0 mentorship and pitch training
  • Free exhibit space at the Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE conference
  • The opportunity to present on stage to all Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE attendees for a chance to win the grand prize

The grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 (USD) cash prize and a one-year membership to the Aging2.0 Alliance.

Keri Vogtmann, Ambassador and founder of the Aging2.0 Sacramento chapter, commented “Now is the time for us to put on our thinking caps and step forward to enrich the lives of the aging population by providing them, and their caregivers, with solutions that allow them to live with more independence, autonomy and dignity to age in place. Innovation can bridge the generations to work side-by-side towards a common goal and all the while, learn from each other, understand what is truly important to the elderly and ensure what is developed meets those needs. Sacramento has a real opportunity to be the epicenter of gerontechnology.”

The general public is welcome to attend the April 18 pitch competition and vote for the startups they feel best meets the needs of seniors. Register at aging2.com/events.

Last year’s global winner was Stack Lighting, headquartered in Cupertino. Their first step toward achieving this international accomplishment was to compete in the Sacramento pitch competition. “As we’ve developed our Care platform, the Sacramento community has provided invaluable support at every stage,” said Neil Joseph, Founder and CEO of Stack. “The Sacramento Aging2.0 pitch event deepened our connections in the area; we have now successfully engaged pilot and integration partners in Sacramento and the event gave us the amazing opportunity to share our vision with a broader audience at the Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE Conference.”
