Great news! Late last week, the Sacramento Kings announced the second year of Capitalize, a startup pitch contest showcasing local entrepreneurs. Moneta Ventures is collaborating with the Kings to highlight the most promising innovators and companies of the Sacramento region. And….wait for it….there is a $10,000 prize for the winner! Applications are due THIS FRIDAY by noon sharp! Click here for the rules and to apply.

There is a TON of stuff going on this week! It’s hard to choose the best bets, but I’ll give it a whirl. By the way, if I ever suggest a Best Bet that you found to be a dud, let me know. Likewise, I always like to hear if you enjoyed an event you found out about in the Digest.

This Week’s Best Best

If you’re looking to score SBIR or STTR grant funds, the UC Davis Venture Catalyst Grant Workshop kicks off tonight (Monday) in Davis. I HIGHLY recommend investing in the workshop — you will save yourself tons of time and greatly increase your likelihood of being awarded grant funding.

It’s a “Twofer” at Impact VC on Wednesday morning. First up is 1 Million Cups featuring presentations from Cloak and Dagger and Magilla Loans. Immediately following is Legal Office Hours — your chance to get 30 minutes of free advice from attorney Mark Peterson of Diepenbrock. The catch on office hours is that you need to sign up for a time slot in advance. More details here.

Thursday night you’ll wish you could be in two places at once! Startup Grind at The Urban Hive will host Sheri Atwood, founder and CEO of SupportPay. She has an inspirational founder story and she’ll  also share why she decided to move her company from Silicon Valley to Sacramento. And just across the Causeway, at UC Davis, is the Winter Mixer & Big Bang! Live Pitch. In addition to great networking, two Big Bang! past winners will pitch. And it’s a free event!
